There have been many tough jobs. Every time we say, "that
was the worst", another contender for the title comes along.
Currently a civil project for the upgrade of facilities on a railway
platform, has been a test.
Limited access, public and workers safety, very tight time constraints,
the need for maximum productions, and coordination of contractors,
has been a test, and still is.
We started in there with our 773 G Series loader to work on spoil
removal and tender work for a drilling rig, which was constructing
a bored pier retaining wall for the stairs leading to a tunnel,
also under construction.
Attachments started with an 8" (203 mm) auger, 4 in 1 bucket,
pallet forks, ½ yard (0.4 cubic metre) bulk bucket, and reinforced
ramps.
Under the workplace health and safety guidelines, it was simple
No mess, No spillage and nothing to upset Joe Public.
Just move 15 cubic yards (11.5 cubic metres) of spoil daily, provide
fuel, steel reinforced cages, and full back-up. Get a 3-yard (2.3
cubic metres) dumping hopper for the Bobcat. A phone call to 1300
RENT IT solved that, and got me more compliments and work than we
knew what to do with.
It has just gone on from there. A 1 &1/2 ton Bobcat excavator
(322D) to get into the tight spots and load spoil onto conveyor
belts a 3 tonne excavator (331D) to dig electrical trenches
along the platform (still in use), overhead 25,000 volts power everywhere
and more underground services, manhole renewals 36" x 8 feet
(914 mm x 2438 mm) deep holes, dig out the lift wells and stairs,
load out trucks, plate compact 1 in 1 batters, etc. And all the
while that hopper is saving lots of dramas and time.
