Just
recently, I was going through some photographs of the difficult
work sites I have encountered during the past 21 years of earthmoving
with "Bobcat" brand skid-steer loaders and excavators.
I have attached them for your perusal and hopefully you may forward
them with this letter to Bobcat Australia as a suitable entry in
the 500,000th Bobcat Celebration competition.
I was engaged to excavate a swimming pool in the rear yard of a
home in Wyong Street, The Spit for and on behalf of The Australian
Pool Company. The regular pool excavator for The Australian Pool
Co declined to excavate this site because of the enormity of the
rock excavation.
The site was a narrow block with side access only for a Bobcat
1.5m wide. There was a 4.5m rise from the street level to the ground
level at the rear of the house. 3m from the rear door, was a rock
outcrop rising a further 5 to 6m. That was where they wanted the
pool. It was a daunting project to say the least.
At that time, my Company owned a Bobcat 743, a Bobcat Excavator
225 and a Bobcat 853 with Rock Breakers and various other attachments.
This job called for the Bobcat 743 and the 225 Excavator, both
fitted with the Bobcat 1250 breakers.
The photograph shows the extent of the excavated site. It shows
an area on top of the rock, which called for extreme care and expertise
to complete that section. The pool excavation itself clearly shows
that the whole excavation was in rock and that the side of the hill
had to be removed before the hole for the pool could be dug.
The photograph tells the story. The excavation was a huge task
for small machines, small as they were, they did the job and did
it with ease. There were times I thought we had suction caps under
the tracks and tyres or even sky hooks to hold them up on the rock
ledges. The excavation on top of the rock did prove to be extremely
difficult, but with our experience in difficult sites and with the
right size machines such as the 225 Excavator and the Bobcat 743
coupled with the Bobcat 1250 Breakers our job was made a lot easier.
The whole job only took 3 days to complete.
So, you ask the question, what tough jobs would we have in mind
for a new 500K Limited Edition Bobcat 773 Skid-Steer Loader?
We would be able to do more work as described above. The Bobcat
773's longer wheelbase would give us more stability on awkward and
difficult sites. The vertical lift would give us a greater reach
with our attachments and would be better for loading our track and
trailers. The Bobcat 773 would give more operator comfort fitted
with the suspension seat and air-conditioning. The Hydraulic Bob-Tach
would make for faster changing of attachments.
Company Profile: Castle Hill Excavations Pty Ltd is a family owned
Company specialising in all types of earthmoving. The Company was
established in 1985 after having traded as a husband and wife partnership
for 5 years. The Company has specialised in the compact earthmoving
equipment field starting out with an old second hand petrol powered
and clutch driven M600 Bobcat. We then moved into a new 631 Bobcat,
743 Bobcat, 843 Bobcat, 853 Bobcat, 225 Bobcat Excavator, another
743 Bobcat, 863 Bobcat, 873 Bobcat and other skid steer loaders.
Our attachments have consisted of forks, sweeper, auger, 2x 250
breakers, 350 breaker, scarifiers, rear mounted rippers, litter
bucket, backhoe and tracks. We have also owned Volvo 7 and 5 tonne
excavators. Over the years we have had Toyota 3 an 4 tonne tippers,
2 N1630 International Tippers, Volvo 8 wheeler tipper, International
tipper, FH 10 Volvo Tipper and the latest NH12 Volvo Tipper. We
were if not the first, to have the Bobcat and mini tipper combination.
We also started the combination of Bobcat, small excavator and tipper
hire, which has been grasped by so many other contractors today.
We have tried to be innovative with the right selection of equipment.
"Bobcat" has certainly been the preferred choice.
Our Company returned to the "Bobcat" equipment because
they proved to be more reliable with better service and parts backup.
Plus, far greater choice of machines and compatible attachments
made to suit. We found that if we didn't own an attachment for a
particular job, we could hire one from Bobcat.
We have hired the small 1m wide Bobcat demonstrations with the
943 Bobcat and the latest 864 Bobcat. The Bobcat 864 is the subject
of another letter, what a great machine!
The Bobcat 864 will be our next acquisition this year. This machine
working with the Limited Edition Bobcat 773 would make a formidable
team and would allow us to provide a far greater service to our
clients.
We are serious and committed to the type of work we do. We are
mainly involved in Swimming Pool Excavating, On Site Stormwater
Detention Tanks, Removal of unwanted Concrete Pools, Domestic House
Excavations, Removal of Excess Fill and Builders Waste. We thrive
on difficult sites and because of that we change machines on a regular
basis, usually every 2 to 2 1/2 years. The machines only have just
over 1000 hours and are more valuable as a trade in.
Our Company does not advertise for work, we have 4 permanent clients,
serviced on a weekly basis, we get all our other work by word of
mouth. We cover an area from Newcastle in the north to Nowra in
the south, not bad for a husband and wife team!
We are proud of the work we have completed for our clients, needless
to say we are proud of our association with "Bobcat".
We have always been pleased to recommend "Bobcat products"
to your prospective clients whenever asked and we have no objection
to this letter being reproduced in part or full should you so desire.
